Today was a free day for us; well, mostly free. I did have 10 cantos to read and study, and somehow I could not make myself do the work. The sun was too bright; the breeze too crisp; my brain too excited to enjoy what Siena had to offer. I wanted to play in the city; so I did. First, I walked over to the park in front of my house. There is a statue there, a man on a horse, with whom I wanted to get better acquainted. It turns out that the man is Garibaldi.
After spending a minute with him, I walked to the Fortezza, which, for lack of a better way to describe it, is like a giant rooftop garden that is often used as an outdoor cinema. From the top you have a great view of the city.
After my walk, I came back and cooked spaghetti-- I felt a bit like a fraud (which is a level of Hell that I read about today) fixing American style spaghetti in Italy, but it was at least edible. Then, after more reading, I took another trip outside with my roomie Catherine; she is the photographer of the group; her camera is forever clicking. This is wonderful because I was able to get more pictures of my adventures so far; so, instead of words, I will let the images do the talking.
